Cybersecurity Club -

The Cybersecurity Club encompasses multiple activities, the primary of which is CyberPatriot.

CyberPatriot  (Link) is a high school and middle school Cyber Defense education program created by the Air Force Association.  Students act as IT Administrators and secure various systems such: a Windows OS, a Linux OS, and a Windows Server system. They also answer questions based on content from Cisco.  Students learn so much about Cyber Defense on both a personal and for a company.

National Cyber League (NCL - Link) is a collegiate and high school, defensive and offensive, puzzle based competition.  It is a capture-the-flag style competition, where students demonstrate their ability to identify hackers from forensic data, break into vulnerable websites, recover from ransomware attacks, and more.  The challenges are based on the CompTIA Security+ and EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker performance-based exam objectives.

Capture the Flag are events where individuals solve puzzles and provide answers as "flags".  Sometimes they are individual events, and sometimes they are team events.  Other CTF events in which we participate are: PicoCTF, HSCTF, SANS Holiday Hack Challenge

Girls Who Code - RHS Chapter's Website

The Girls Who Code (Link) club is  "...on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does."  The Rocklin HS chapter has had field trips to Hewlett-Pacard Enterprise and Google. We've had guest speakers from industry and academia.  We are improving our knowledge of hardware and software, and are currently working with a programmer from HPE to learn Python.  Each year the girls look for ways that they can give back to their community as well.  Students must be 9th-12th grade, and attending Rocklin High School! All students are welcome to participate in Girls Who Code regardless of sex or gender identity!

Esports

Esports has experienced incredible growth in recent years. Many organizations are now working to create environments where healthy gaming habits prevail, and students interests in gaming can be parlayed into career track programs.  At Rocklin HS, we are fortunate to have a very supportive site and district adminstration.  We have joined two Esports leagues: NASEF (North American Scholastic Esports Federation) and HSEL (High School Esports League). This year, our Overwatch Varsity won NASEF's North American Championship, and took took 3rd in HSEL's North American Championship.  We are looking to expand our participation, while having a more organized approach.  Additionally, there are multiple ways for students to be involved outside of gaming including: managing teams, shoutcasting, social media management, IT management, and helping teams using VODs to analyze their gameplay.  We will continue to find ways for all students to find success with this program.

Coding Club

Within the Coding Club, students teach students how to code regardless of coding experience! By walking through problems as a group, teams, and individuals, students are able to learn the fundamentals of Python and Java in a productive and accepting learning environment. Members of the Coding Club also prepare to compete in the annual Hewlett-Packard Enterprises (HPE) CodeWars event!
