The district's adopted curriculum is called College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM). The middle school uses this curriculum as well. The program emphasizes gaining a fundamental understanding of mathematical concepts and problem-solving through collaborative teamwork and individual practice. The CPM website provides help with homework and a parent guide.
In addition, RUSD has adopted an instructional strategy called “Building Thinking Classrooms”, which engages students in their learning at vertical whiteboards in random teams of 2-3. You may hear your child talk about “working at the walls” or “Flippity” when this strategy is utilized (Flippity is the online random group generator we use).
Additionally, we will be using the computer-based program ST Math. ST Math is a visual, game-based math program that helps students build deep conceptual understanding through interactive puzzles and problem-solving. Instead of relying on language, it uses visual models to let students explore, make mistakes, and learn from them.

Chapter tests consist of an online form to submit final answers and a Proof Sheet to show work/thinking. Students are allowed to use their math notebook during chapter tests and are also allowed to correct mistakes for partial credit. Study guides and practice tests are valuable resources to help students prepare for a chapter test.
