RCPS owns several sets of Sphero SPRK+ robots. They can be programmed using the SpheroEDU app with either block coding or JavaScript language. There are 12 robots in each charging pack.
Bolt is a newer robot similar to Spark, but it also includes LED lights and a wide variety of sensors. Each charging pack has 15 robots with a longer lasting battery.
Indi is the newest addition to our collection of Sphero Robots, and is a powerful way to do screen free coding with younger students. Indi uses sensors to react to color cards.
RCPS has one set of Sphero Minis. The set contains 30 robots along with 30 sets of small cones and bowling pins for obstacles.
Students coded Sphero to travel around the perimeter of a quadrilateral shape. After mastering their code, students covered Sphero in paint and ran the code on a blank piece of paper.
Students had to design a biome and make a path for their creature to follow. It had to have food, predators, source of water, and a habitat. The students created a cup with the design of their creature. It had to have special adaptations that helped it survive in its environment. Students coded the Spheros to control speed, make sound effects, and use special moves.
