Makey Makey is a STEM tool that can be connected to a Chromebook device via USB. It allows the user to take everyday objects that conduct electricity and use them as an extension of their keyboard. This provides a hands on way to engage students with science concepts such as circuitry, conductivity, and coding. Makey Makey projects help facilitate the design process for students to create solutions or prototypes that make our world better and brighter.
Using Scratch, create an interactive poster about your content. Lesson Guide from Makey Makey Labz
Hook up your makey makey to to test objects for conductivity. Go a step further and design a poster board and Scratch program to test for conductivity. Example here.
Design a switch to use for a voting booth. Create a scratch program to collect data and hook it up to your Makey Makey voting booth. Use the data tracker guide from Makey Makey labz.
Use graphite pencils and Scratch programming to create an interactive drawing. Use instructions from the Sketch it, Play it and Scratch page on the Makey Makey K12 site.
Use your Makey Makey to design a photobooth or leprechaun/santa trap with a large switch. Use the Santa Trap Guide from Makey Makey Labz. Or, make it collaborative by designing a circuit that requires students to work together to close the circuit.
Design an adaptive instrument, game, or clicker for students in your building. Inspired from Tom Heck’s TedxTalk.
