Massanutten Valley Meats
In 2017 Rockingham County and Harrisonburg City Public Schools with the help of several local Agriculture Producers and Agriculture Industry Professionals created the Agriculture Production course at Massanutten Technical Center, to fill the need to train students that would one day operate their families' farm. When Mike and Susan Phillips of Valley View Farm in Tenth Legion heard about the program they offered their property as a classroom and working land laboratory for the students to use and gain valuable hands-on experience.
The students manage and raise livestock as part of their training, beef cattle, hogs, sheep and goats. From conception to consumption, livestock are bred, raised and then processed and marketed through our Retail Meats Store- Massanutten Valley Meats. We teach humane treatment of our animals and students are BQA and PQA trained. Beef cattle are raised without hormones and are not fed antibiotics. We do treat animals when needed and adhere to strict withdrawal times on all medication given. In addition to the student raised livestock, Valley View Farms is renowned for its many innovative and sustainable practices implemented. Soil and water conservation are focal points of Mike Phillips and Valley View Farms and their importance are imparted on our students.
All purchases from Massanutten Valley Meats help to continue our goal of continuing local and sustainable agricultural education.
