Each day students begin class with the current events assignment. This assignment not only allows students to connect current events with past historical events, it also challenges them daily informational writing.
Students will also have warm-up and exit ticket assignments that allows me to assess their understanding of the content.
In history we will be using a format called EDI (Explicit Direct Instruction). Throughout (and after) the teacher’s presentation, students will demonstrate, either verbally or in writing, that they understand the learning objective for the day. This often involves working collaboratively with classmates, class discussion, and interacting with the teacher. Students will often be called on randomly so the teacher can determine if the lesson is being learned or if more instruction or a different approach is needed. By the end of the lesson, all students should be able to demonstrate understanding independently. Students will be assessed both during and at the conclusion of each history unit.
Students will also have various research and presentation reports due throughout the year.

Students will be granted additional time for work that is late due to an excused absence. They will be granted an extra day of time for each day missed. For example, if a student misses three days of school due to an excused absence, they will have three days to turn in the missed work.
Work that is late without an excused absence or a missing assignment, must be turned in by the end of the current week and will be docked 10% per day. I will NOT except any work beyond the current week.
It is the students' responsibility to communicate with me in regards to missing assignments.
