Welcome to DP Theatre

Curriculum:

The arts curriculum at Rockford High School centers on the artistic processes of create, perform, respond, and connect. We follow the Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts while also incorporating the principles and practices of the IB Theatre curriculum. DP Theatre is a collaborative, creative, and challenging course designed for students who want to explore theatre from both an artistic and academic perspective.

What can you expect in DP Theatre?

DP Theatre explores theatre as both an art form and a way of understanding people, cultures, and the world around us. Throughout the course, students will create, perform, research, analyze, and reflect as theatre artists.

Students will explore:

• World Theatre Traditions and the ways culture, history, and society influence theatre

• Play Texts through analysis, interpretation, and performance

• Theatre-Making through collaborative projects and original performance work

• Acting and Performance with an emphasis on character, physicality, voice, intention, and storytelling

• Theatre Research and the exploration of different practitioners, styles, and theatrical traditions

• Collaboration through ensemble-building, devising, directing, design, and performance

• Reflection by examining artistic choices, creative processes, and personal growth as theatre artists

This class is for students who are curious, creative, collaborative, and willing to take risks. You do not need to know exactly what you want to do after high school. Whether you are an experienced performer or someone who is interested in exploring theatre in a new way, DP Theatre will challenge you to think deeply, create boldly, and develop your own artistic voice.

Most importantly, this is a class where we make theatre together. You will have opportunities to experiment, fail, revise, perform, collaborate, and discover what kind of theatre artist you want to become.
