Mrs. Wilts

Hello! I am excited to be part of the Rockford Middle School – Center for Environmental Studies community as a 5th and 6th grade social studies teacher.

I grew up in Roseau, Minnesota, and earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota Moorhead. After graduating, I moved to Virginia, where I spent four years teaching 5th grade. Those experiences helped shape my passion for creating engaging, student-centered lessons that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning.

I believe social studies is much more than learning about dates and events—it's about understanding the people, cultures, and ideas that have shaped our world. My goal is to help students become thoughtful historians who ask questions, examine different perspectives, and make meaningful connections between the past and the present.

Outside of school, I enjoy going for walks, reading, spending time with my family, attending my children's sporting events, and cheering on my favorite sports teams.

I look forward to partnering with students and families for a year filled with learning, discovery, and growth!

Class description

Sixth grade students will study Minnesota history and government, placing the state and people within the context of the national story.  Students will engage in historical inquiry and study events, issues and individuals significant to Minnesota history, beginning with the early indigenous people of the upper Mississippi River region to the present day.
