Welcome Everyone to Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School!
I would like YOU to get to know ME just a little better. I have been teaching for the Rockford Area Schools since 1989. I started as a Reading Specialist and then moved to First Grade in 1992. I have also taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade and Spanish Club for the Rockford Area Schools. Since 2018 my role at REAMS has been Reading Intervention Specialist. More specifically I work with students in our Alternative Delivery of Specialized Instructional Services (ADSIS) Program. I work with small groups of students in grades K-4 to help increase their reading skills such as fluency, comprehension and memory of grammatic rules in the English language. My role is to help my students bridge the learning gap and become more successful readers.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota in 1984. I then completed my Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from St. Mary's College in 1992. I have participated in several training courses through The Perpich Center for the Arts to improve my ability to infuse art into your child's education. Since 2018 I have also taken another 20 graduate credits to enhance my professional development as a Reading Interventionist for Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School. Most recently, I have completed my certification for training to use the Orton-Guillingham methodology, through the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education known as IMSE, to instruct students in intense interventions to improve their acquisition of reading skills to meet grade level expectations.
As a teacher I strive for strong clear communication with all of you. Please contact me anytime and know that I look forward to building a strong professional relationship with you and your family to help foster the education and success for your child.
I am looking forward to having a fun and productive year working with your child!
