Homework:
Math: paper homework 2-3 nights per week due next day. These are typically front to back and feature the current learning targets. Occasionally review work is sent or work of a different nature.
Reading: 20 reading minutes per night/ 100 minutes weekly, due on reading log the following Monday with a parent signature. Use weekends to catch up on minutes.
Spelling and Vocabulary: Weekly Vocabulary lists will be handed out Mondays with tests on Fridays. Your child needs to practices these words and definititions with you. Have conversations with your child about the word by practicing it in sentences, using a dictionary, drawing pictures, etc. The more you engage in dialog using the vocabulary words the better understanding your child will have.
Spelling lists will not be provided each week. Rather you will be informed of the skill/ concept of the week and your student will bring home their word work for the week. Practice the words featured in the word work and any additional words which follow the rule. The goal is your child learns the concepts and can apply it to any word rather than memorize words. Knowing rules helps your child apply to unfamiliar words. Friday tests will feature a variety of words practiced and unpracticed.
