Theory Of Knowledge (TOK)
Syllabus is HERE
To anyone interested in the pursuit of knowledge:
The theory behind this course is familiar to those of you who remember our 7th grade history class. If you recall, something I tried to instill in all of you who had to sit through the terrible impressions, strange accents, and mock battlefield amputations was to be a curious learner. You must remember the frustration of me telling you to go look for another way to solve your "issue" at the time when all you wanted was a SIMPLE ANSWER. You would stomp off, mutter things about me to your friends, and more often than not work out a way to use the tools I'd provided and accomplish your task. I have always told you that you will be in charge of your learning all of your adult life. Do you want to be a successful, dynamic, sought-after person with multiple life options? Someone who understands that solving problems, whatever their form, is the key to it all? Here is the answer...
Learn HOW to learn for yourself.
(Seriously. That's the class)
Before you go and contact the administration and tell them I am just hanging out and doing nothing, hear me out. My purpose is not as simple as you think, and even more complex to quantify. It is to help my students gain the knowledge and develop the strategies that unlock all the tools at their disposal to become flexible and thoughtful problem solvers.
This class is for those ready to ponder the BIG questions, all while understanding that the BIGGEST questions may not necessarily have an answer. It is for students interested in the pursuit of the knowledge needed to answer a question...Not just the answer. It is for the ones who realize that gathering knowledge can be accomplished multiple ways, many of them not actually involving textbooks (or Twitter). You must approach this class with the perspective that finding the "answer" is not the goal. It, along with the conscious effort of understanding the process of learning is what truly matters. It is a class for CURIOUS LEARNERS...And if that sounds interesting, maybe it is for you?
Neigh little horsies:)
