Band Karate

BAND KARATE!!!

  1. What is Band Karate?: Band Karate is a way to show your progress in band! Just like in regular Karate, there are belts for each level that you pass. Pass all the levels to become a black belt!
  2. Who does Band Karate? All 5th and 6th grade band students! 5th graders participate in Level 1, and 6th graders participate in Level 2.
  3. When will Band Karate happen? You will practice your band karate songs at home or during school. Once every 3 band classes, students will have an opportunity to pass each belt. Students can also schedule a time before or after school to pass their belts. The sign up sheet is on the Band Karate bulletin board.
  4. How do I earn belts?
    1. Practice the “test song” for each belt, and perform it with 100% accuracy.
    2. Fill out the section of your band karate packet that goes with each belt. You must show this to Ms. Nalven or Mr. Ferdig to get credit.
  5. How many belts are there? There are 10 levels for each grade: white, yellow, orange, red, green, blue, purple, brown, grey and black.
  6. What do I get when I earn a belt?
    1. 5th Grade: you will get a colored zip tie belt for each level to put on your case.
    2. 6th Grade: you will get a colored bead for each level that you will add to a string on your case.
    3. If you finish your black belt by the end of the year, you get a special prize!
