Welcome to Fifth Grade Agri-Science! Save the best for last, right? Since 5th graders are the final group of Agri-Science students during the school year as well as being new to the school, there are always a handful of them who will stop me in the hallway throughout the school year and ask, "What is agriculture?" Most of those students are usually sporting a puzzled look on their face while waiting for my response. Hearing that question reassures me that it is important for students to have this very course every year during their middle school career. Fifth grade Agri-Science is an intro to all things agriculture. We investigate different types of livestock, plant science, gardening, pollinators, FFA, and even a bit of food preservation if time allows. Fortunately quarter 4 takes place in the spring and so does gardening. Students can expect to be outside as often as possible, experiencing the outdoor learning spaces RMS-CES has to offer, and taking ownership in their contribution to improving those spaces too. Overall our goal for all fifth graders to have an answer to that common hallway question mentioned above, as well as to be able to explain agriculture to others who may ask them.
