Class overview
The focus for Earth Science is the complex nature of the Earth system. This interacting and overlapping system includes Earth’s composition, structure, processes, history, atmosphere and the space beyond, fresh water, oceans, and impacts of humans activities. Students will uncover evidence for the Big bang theory, examine historical research on local weather events and predict global atmospheric changes, understand the mechanisms that regulate weather systems and the role oceans play, generate a hypothesis based on observing motor oil densities and apply to a greater understanding of Earth's mantle, and much much more! Interpreting maps, charts, tables, and profiles; mathematic skills and use of technology to collect, analyze, and report data; and the utilization of science skills in systematic investigation will enhance students problem solving and decisions as related to the costs and benefits of utilizing Earth’s resources, so that the learning continues outside of the classroom. Through labs, discussions, and deep dive research, students will be able to explore, explain, apply, share and reflect on the complex nature of our big blue marble, Earth.
