About

Welcome to the Central Elementary Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) site! This site will help answer questions you may have about the AIG program in Rockingham County Schools, and more specifically Central Elementary School.

In 2016-2017 Rockingham County Schools restructured the delivery of AIG services. The instructional coach at each school is now overseeing/teaching the AIG classes. This does not mean that services being provided are diminished.  In previous years, the AIG teacher has been divided between 2-3 schools, but I am fortunate enough to be here every day with your children.

This is an exciting time of your child’s life as they continue to grow socially and emotionally. It is my goal to ensure they will also be challenged intellectually.  They will be challenged both individually and through group projects. One of the unique qualities of the AIG program is the ability for students to share their experiences with other students to solve problems, ask questions, and probe for a deeper understanding on a variety of topics.

As a parent you probably have lots of questions and concerns, some of which might include:

It is my hope that with this site I will be able to answer these questions and be able to open up the world of possibilities for your child as they travel through their intellectual journey.

Vision 2020 Statement

The Rockingham County Schools' Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program will empower each child to be a life-long learner, equipped to contribute in a changing, complex society.

RCS AIG Mission Statement

Through effective relationships with family and community partners, the Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program of the Rockingham County School district will provide a safe, dynamic, nurturing, and innovative learning environment in which each child has the opportunity to reach his/her highest potential. To do this effectively, elementary, middle, and high schools will strive to identify and meet the unique educational needs of gifted students who come from all ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic groups. The cultivation of potential in this population must be enhanced through an appropriate match of differentiated services to individual needs as we strive to prepare the students for success in the 21st century. The program encourages critical thinking, creative thinking, and problem solving, while also addressing the social and emotional needs of the students.
