Hello! I've been researching and writing about teaching assistants (TAs), inclusion and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) for 20 years.
I've worked on some ground-breaking projects, including the UK’s largest study of the everyday school experiences of pupils with SEND, the results of which are covered in my book, The Inclusion Illusion. In 2023, I co-organised the UK's first Citizens' Panel on school inclusion for young people with SEND.
I created the Maximising the Impact of Teaching Assistants training programme, which has been accessed by thousands of UK schools. My recent research concerns the extent and impact of TAs covering classes and leading lessons in place of teachers.
Before joining the University of Greenwich in 2024, I worked at UCL Institute for Education (2005-21) and the University of Portsmouth (2021-23). I have a PhD in Education from the University of Reading.
