Student Government Association

SGA Constitution Preamble

We, the students of Randolph-Macon College, affirm that we must be allowed to develop in an atmosphere of freedom and understanding that with this freedom comes responsibility, do pledge ourselves both to maintain this freedom and to accept responsibility through the establishment of an effective student government; to ensure the basic rights of personal freedom to the individual student; and to ensure the active and rational participation by the student body in the determination of Randolph-Macon College policy.

The Student Government Asccocation was formed at Randolph-Macon in 1922. Its original mission states: "The purpose of student government is to obtain the greatest individual group welfare in an educational institution. The group strives to attain a high standard of student life by individual self discipline."

Through the years Student Government (SGA) has played a sigificant role in the formation of policy in the college working closely with students and administration. Once focused primarily on the college's social events, SGA is now primarly involved in representation and advocacy for students and organizations.
