Each week all Lafayette High School Staff members (teachers, secretaries, custodians, para-professionals, cooks and administrators) receive an email containing a link to a Student of the Month Ballot Google Form. Each staff member is asked to vote for one student 7-9 and one student 10-12 who they feel deserves being nominated for Student of the month based on the following:
Student is academically superior
Student displays good work ethic in class
Student is focused on his/her studies and doesn’t waste class time
Student is respectful/polite of adults and authority figures
Student goes out of their way to help others with school work or in the halls/cafeteria/gym (without being asked)
Student is patient and helpful with others
Student has performed a “Random Act of Kindness” witnessed by the staff member
Student has done something that makes them worthy of being recognized as “Student of the Month”
At the end of the month the weekly nominations will be counted and two students (one 7-9 and one 10-12) will be awarded “Student of the Month”. In case of a tie, the SOM Committee will make the final decision based on comments written by the staff.
The students will receive a certificate and a picture will be taken of them which will be submitted to the paper and will be posted online. The Senior High Student may also be given a parking spot in front of the school for the following month (Sept SOM will get to park in the faculty parking lot the month of October; May SOM will get the parking spot in Sept if applicable). At the end of the year (mid to late May) the school will host a Student of the Month Recognition Breakfast where all the SOM recipients and their parents will be invited for breakfast pizza party(or such) and we will have door prizes for the students.
