7th Grade Technology Education

About me

My name is Benjamin Saylor and I will be your student's technology education teacher in 7th grade. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in education from Elizabethtown College, and a Master's Degree in education from UMUG in Maryland. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my wife and 4 children. Some of my hobbies include sailing, fishing, home construction, and other outdoor activities. I am excited to teach and encourage your child on how to use a variety of tools and machines to produce their projects this quarter.

Class overview

This is an introductory course to technology education. It is a quarter-long course (45 days). Technology education will incorporate the STEM concept which is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students will learn to accurately use fractions when measuring and work through the design process during their projects. Students will need to use skills from all of the above classes to draw conclusions and solve complex problems effectively. In 7th Grade, we will learn about basic woodworking concepts and how to apply them to our projects. We will also learn about architectural design and construct 3D-printed blueprints. Some of the skills that the 7th-grade students will be taught include measuring, abrasives, machine safety, and architectural drafting. The woodworking machines we will focus on include the drill press, scroll saw, power sanders, and table router. Students will also be taught how to use basic hand tools such as hand drills, hand saws, screwdrivers, squares, and hammers.
