Theme: Resilience
All reading selections this year feature the theme of resilience. Adversity comes in all shapes and sizes, and these novel selections explore how people find strength and hold fast in the face of difficulties. Despite hardships that can sometimes feel overwhelming, there is often growth following struggle. Without the ability to adapt, we may never unlock our full potential. The endurance of the human spirit is on full display in the summer reading selections, and our goal by sharing these stories is that we will all gain profound insight and new perspectives into the true meaning of resilience.
Tasks: Writing & Book Club
In September, students will meet with peers in faculty-led book clubs. Discussions will focus on the theme of resilience and then be organically shaped by those participating.
In the first weeks of school, all students will write a reflection in English classes. This graded assignment will be handwritten. The prompt will connect to the theme of resilience as displayed through characters' actions and plot points.
