In Math 7, you will start by studying scale drawings in Unit 1. Scale drawings help support Unit 2 and Unit 4 which are about proportional relationships and percents. It also makes use of grade 6 arithmetic understanding and skill, without arithmetic becoming the major focus of attention at this point.
Geometry and proportional relationships are also interwoven in the third unit on circles, where the important proportional relationship between a circle's circumference and its diameter is studied.
By the time you reach the fifth unit, you will work on operations with rational numbers, both positive and negative. The work on operations on rational numbers, with its emphasis on the role of the properties of operations in determining the rules for operating with negative numbers, is a natural lead-in to the work on expressions and equations in the next unit.
Students then put their arithmetical and algebraic skills to work in the last two units, on angles, triangles, and prisms, and on probability and sampling.
Hello!
My name is Mrs. Jones. I graduated with a degree in Economics from UC Davis many (many) years ago and earned my Master's Degree in Education from San Diego Christian College. This is my 14th year teaching 7th grade math and my 21st year teaching overall. I've been at Miller since we opened 12 years ago and I love it here!
My husband, Mr. Jones, teaches PE here at Miller. We have two kids - my son graduated last year from Citrus Hill HS and goes to Mt. San Jacinto now where he studies business and plays baseball. My daughter graduated from King and UC Irvine and is now a professional golfer on the Symetra Tour.
If I'm not teaching, there's a good chance I'm watching sports. I played basketball and swam in high school and love watching those sports in addition to watching my kids play golf and baseball. I also enjoy reading, cooking (and eating) and lately I have started exercising too (hopefully, I can keep that up).
