MISSION STATEMENT
As an Academy cadet, I will strive to demonstrate integrity, responsibility & respect as I participate in career education within the field of Law & Protective Services.
I will exemplify these values through my behavior and conduct in all aspects of my private and public life.
I will serve my community through opportunities offered by the Riverside Police Department, The Academy & other public agencies.
WHAT IS LAPS ALL ABOUT?
Each year you will explore a variety of topics and have opportunities to interact with experts in their career fields.
As an academy we offer you support to grow and explore. We will give you access to professional training and certifications which will help prepare you to pursue your purpose and make a difference in our community and world.
You will be having classes with the same group of students all 3 years.
10th grade: Intro to Law: Defining Law, Criminal Justice System, Corrections, Steps in Trial & your rights, Mock Trial, Ethics in Law : Nuremberg Laws, Forensics, Citizen Advocacy, Career Exploration. Project Based Learning & Career Speakers
STUDY TOURS: Lake Perris water safety & teambuilding; Riverside Superior Court & Riv District Attorney's office; Fire Station Tour; Museum of Tolerance; LA Zoo.
11th grade: Constitutional Rights, Levels of Interaction between Law Enforcement & Civilians, Laws and Penal Codes, Organized Crime, Deconstructing Crime scenes, Mentoring, Phyical Training, RPD Project. CPR Certification, Stop the Bleed certification.
STUDY TOURS: Exposition park, Science Center & Olvera Street; Newport Landing Excursion; CBU Crime Scene Day; Ben Clarke Training Center; CSUSB
12th grade: RPD Teen 2 Teen Internship, Scenario based Training , ROP Instruction, Gaurd Card Training.
STUDY TOURS: Magnolia Station & Milo Training; SWAT & Aviation; Sacramento Study Tour
Community Service with RPD & other Partnering agencies
SUMMER INTERNSHIP: CERT Certification. Fire science training or Police Training.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP: We are grateful for the tremendous amount of support from the following organizations.
11th grade: students will be paired with a mentor & begin working in the RPD Junior Project which will prepare them for the Senior Internship.
12th grade: students will participate in the Teen 2 Teen Internship with the Riverside Police Department.
