There will be more updates on the information below. It will be fully ready to go by October 20. However, you can get a general idea of what is expected. The audition materials (songs, scripts, etc.) are accurate if you want to start practicing already, however. There might be some additional steps that I will add as I come across it.
What character do you want to be? There are a lot of differences between this version and the animated Cinderella version. I would recommend watching:
The Brandy Version of Cinderella (Available on Disney+)
The 1965 Leslie Anne Warren Version (Available on Prime and Disney+ but you can also find clips of it on Youtube)
The original Black and White Version staring Julie Andrews on Youtube. Warning: This is a very old copy that was thought to have been lost forever. The quality is not great because it has never been officially restored.
Note: We are doing the Youth Edition which has removed a couple of scenes and songs but this gives you a good general idea of what will be different.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some general notes: I included the audition script to the left because it includes some character notes.
1) Cinderella needs to have a strong singing voice as she sings in a decent amount in this musical.
2) Godmother, Stepsisters, and the Queen are major characters who do have some singing. You should be able to keep a tune, but I am more looking for someone who acts the part.
3) Stepmother and King have very limited singing (they Speak words during a song basically).
4) Prince will sing but I am not too picky.
5) Herald (is gender neutral as well) does need some singing as well, but it is definitely simplified. I might even split this part between a Herald that sings and another Herald that could be good at slapstick comedy. They have to try on the shoes of every maiden in the country. That cannot be easy!
6) Head Chef and Cooks have some solos in a fun chef song.
BIG NOTE: THE PLAN IS FOR THIS TO BE DOUBLE CAST. MEANING THERE ARE TWO OF EACH PART AVAILABLE.
For example, you are the Queen on Friday Night and Saturday Night you are in the Ensemble. Who plays the Queen on Saturday Night then? The other actor who was cast as the Queen.
The directorial team does reserve the right to change this for certain characters based on the audition results. Please also make sure you are available for both performances when auditioning: March 5 and 6.

Note: This does not mean that you have to be in Primetime every day. When you are in rehearsal or auditions it will enable us to provide a snack and after school supervision during pickup. Pickup will be in the side parking lot for this reason.
Slate: This is what you say at the beginning of your audition. Make sure you practice these lines.
"Hello My Name is..."
"I am auditioning for the part of..."
"I will be singing the song..."
"I would like to start with the song first" or "I would like to start with my lines first"
Do not forget to say thank you at the end.
A few general tips:
1) Practice as much as you can, especially the audition.
2) Practice first with the background vocals (Step 5 below)and then practice without the vocals (Step 6 below).
3) Speak clearly with intent. Try to imagine a mouse is in a clock in the back of the room that you need to wake up.
4) Show expression. This is a big one. Practice moving as much as possible.
5) Take a deep breath before you want to begin your song or lines.
6) Do not be afraid to ask to start over again if you miss your song entrance.
7) Try to memorize your lines. But if you need them, please feel free to bring them up.
8) Enjoy!

Note: When singing, sing all of the parts, not just the one for the character you are using. Basically do not pause between characters. For instance, in Step Sisters Lament, sing all of the lyrics.

A Cast List will be posted on Google Classroom on Sunday, November 8 at 3 PM. It will also be posted to the left. Please do not communicate with other students regarding their role until 5 PM that day. Families need time to process their emotions. Remember, there are TWO of each character.
Two Cinderellas
Four Step Sisters (two for each cast)
Two Step Mothers
Two Princes
Two Godmothers
Two Queens
Two Kings
Two Heralds
Two Head Chefs
Depending on cast size, there might be two ensemble roles as well.
What does this mean? On the Friday Night performance, you are Cinderella and then on Saturday Night, someone else is Cinderella. But do not worry, you are performing both nights! Friday and Saturday on your "OFF CAST NIGHT" you will participate in the Ensemble.
