Our mission at Pachappa is to ensure that all students are successful. We have many interventions in place, but when we work as a team to provide students with their needs, success in the classroom is achievable. We will do our best to eliminate barriers that prevent students from being successful at school.
Community circles are effective in building community with our students. A group of people will form a circle taking turns to respond to a prompt. As participants in the circle respond, students start building empathy and more value towards others. As a result, a community of students will be able to build positive relationships with others.
Written teacher referrals are a part of our progressive discipline guidelines for Pachappa. Our teacher referrals have a space for 4 written infractions. Once student receive their 4th written infraction, they will visit administration on a severe behavior referral.
Severe behavior referrals are given to students who have received their 4th teacher referral or violation is a more severe violation according to Ed code. Although we take a more restorative approach to discipline, severe referrals may lead to suspension.
A Student Study Team (SST) consist of parents, SST coordinator, teacher, and other staff members. This team meets once a student is referred after academic interventions have taken place in class. From there teachers identify student needs that may need more attention from the SST team. Our SST Coordinator will reach out to all parties that need to attend the meeting. From there, additional measures will be agreed upon to support the student. The team will meet several times to see if the supports are effective and make modifications as needed.
Restorative Projects are assigned to students who have participated in actions that lead to infractions/write up. As a consequence, students will receive a restorative project. The project will later be presented by the student in a lower grade level class or to an adult. This opportunity gives our students to ability right their wrongs and deepen their understanding about how their behavior hurts our community. Student are reminded about their choices and how to move forward to be successful.
For student who are display a more severe need of support with behaviors, we work closely with our SAP counselor but a SAP Behavior and Intervention Support Team. As a team, we want to ensure that our students' social-emotional needs are being met so learning can take place.
The Big Brothers and Big Sisters program is a community partnership with Riverside Unified. Parents or Guardians may fill out an application for a Big Brother or a Big Sister. Once an application is filled, BBBS will contact you for an intake meeting. The purpose of the intake meeting is to match a student to a mentor who will be the best fit to support the students needs. From there a match between student and Big Brother or Sister is matched.
We have community members who are supportive of our Pachappa community. We have a group of volunteers that come through out the year to support students with activities that encourage leadership and build confidence.
