Question #2

Question #2 on the Referendum Vote focuses on replacing the windows in our Pop Vernon Field House to complete the ongoing process of making that facility a more fiscally efficient building

with only a minor increase to taxes.

Details on Question 2 Project

New Windows in the Pop Vernon Field House and the Front Corridor:

Several windows, specifically in our gymnasium and the open hallways directly outside of our gymnasiums connecting the buildings, will be replaced with more energy-efficient windows. In the mid 2000's, work was done to redo the curved metal roof that covers the Pop Vernon Field House along with several other window projects in that section of the building. With funding limits always playing a factor in construction projects, the district was unable to replace the windows that make up the domed upper portion of the Field House at that same time. Anyone who has been a spectator, played in a game in, or been a student in a physical education class in the gym, can attest to the fact that the windows are a major issue with regards to glare and lack of proper screening. Additionally, the windows do not properly regulate heat, therefore it is extremely hot or cold in the gym most days. The new windows will provide more insulation from the elements, improve the protection from sun glare, and allow for better ventilation.

COST- $750,000

Soft Costs:

All architectural and construction projects also include some component of "soft costs," traditionally estimated/projected at 30% of the project costs, that include A/E (architectural) fees, contingency costs, construction manager fees, legal fees, etc. The "soft costs" for this whole project equal $225,000.
