Which instrument is the easiest?
NONE OF THEM!
Each instrument is challenging and rewarding in its own way. There is no such thing as an "easy" instrument.
Do I need prior musical experience?
No. The program is designed for beginners, and no previous experience is required.
Which book is used in class?
The book we use in class is called Essential Elements for Band Book 1. This is a very commonly used beginner method book and it can be found at most music stores.
How much time should I spend practicing my instrument?
Every instrument requires adequate practice time. If you're just starting out, one hour per week split between 3-4 days is the minimum amount you should expect to practice in order to see results. As you advance, that time only increases.
How should I choose the right instrument for me?
Listen to multiple examples of each instrument. My suggestion is to go with the one you like the sound of most. Having a love for your instrument, and the way it sounds, will inspire you to practice and overcome challenges you may face!
Can I switch instruments later?
Instrumental Music is a year-long program. While switching instruments mid-year is not permitted, students may choose a different instrument next September.
Why does percussion require an audition?
Due to limited equipment, space, and available openings, percussion requires an audition process. Students who are not selected for percussion will have the opportunity to choose another instrument.
How do I get an instrument?
There are lots of ways you can get an instrument including purchasing or renting from a music retail location. The Music Shop and Sweetwater are some options available for those who prefer to have their instrument and supplies delivered. However, there are other great music stores in the area including O'diBella Music, Musichood, and Music & Arts. While there is no requirement on where to obtain an instrument, please be cautious of purchasing one online from sites like Amazon or Temu as it is difficult to guarantee quality control of the instruments being sold. Before renting or purchasing any instrument, please make sure you have been approved to play that instrument with Ms. Cuadra first!
