Meet Mrs. B-P

(Mrs. Burns-Paterson)

During my extensive career in education, I have taught every grade level from preschool to graduate school. As a child, I imagined myself as a detective, mostly due to a love for trench coats, notepads and Harriet the Spy. As an undergraduate with honors at Arcadia University in Pennsylvania, however; I met several professors who challenged me academically and encouraged me to pursue teaching.

I entered the field of education 38 years ago as a teacher, then administrator, in a private school while pursuing my first masters degree as a reading specialist. In 1990, I began teaching first grade at Cherry Hill School. While at Cherry Hill, I taught first grade, second grade, and created a multi-aged program.

In addition, I have taught staff development workshops throughout Bergen County and graduate students at Fairleigh Dickinson University. I also earned a second masters degree at Montclair State University as a Learning Disabilities Teaching-Consultant, and moved to the position of Basic Skills teacher at Roosevelt School in 2003. Currently, I am an interventionist, working with K-6 students in mathematics and reading.

I strongly believe everyone can be successful if they have an effective teacher and a willingness to learn.

Do noble things, not dream them, all day long – Charles Kinsley
