Mr Bron has written to us asking us to help come up with a costume for the Production.
The Production is about four Kiwi who go on a journey to discover the secrets of the Whiringa.
Our job is to make a costume for our bird the Kākā. It needs to have some Māori patterns that reflect the Tohunga whiringa.
The first thing we do in any Inquiry is take some time to think about what we already know and discuss what we need to find out.
We decided to do a T chart organiser to help record our knowledge, thoughts and ideas about the Whiringa, traditional Māori patterns and wearable art.
Mrs. Lunn guided us through an exploration of Wearable Art. We watched two informative videos to deepen our understanding of the intricate process involved, in creating Wearable Art costumes. Afterwards, we looked at pictures of costumes Mrs. Lunn had printed.
Next, we evaluated these costumes based on the criteria set by Mr. Bron. We worked with a friend and completed the organiser. This helped us decide if the Costume met the criteria Mr Bron set for us. We are finding that looking at the pictures gives us some good ideas of what we could do for our wearable art costumes.
Mr Lion and our tamariki explored Te Whiringawha over several lessons. We discussed the four strands Ariki (Leadership, Blue), Tohunga (Excellence, Red), Mangatoa (Self-Manager, Yellow), and Aronui (Creative, Green), and how each of us has different strengths and connections within these areas. Our final exercise was a personal reflection on what strand we each felt the strongest connection to and represented our beliefs by drawing our square in different colours.
Today with the teachers we went through the Success Criteria.
We thought about what a 'great' design would need. Take a look below at what we decided...
Today with the Mrs Lunn a group of us went through our designs and showed the rest of the group. We wrote a list of all this things that we thought were the best parts of our design.
We called this our ‘List of Wow Ideas’
We came up with three different designs that incorporate our ‘Wow Ideas’ and then we took a vote as to which design we though best met the Success Criteria.
Here is the winning design… Congratulations Lauren! We love your design.
