Feedback for Warner Greenbaum: "I adore this pattern and wish I had a dress made from it! The colors, polka dots, and what looks like a grin make me so happy, while the lines and fadings give it texture and depth". Laura Stanfill, Portland book publisher, Forest Avenue Press.
Feedback for Brendan Finnerty: "There is nothing I don’t love about this piece. It does what all of my favorite work does: takes you and plops you down in the middle of a scenario, leaving you to put together the past and future based only on this frozen moment. What story am I in? I’m not sure, but I’m quite happy to sit here guessing, discarding, guessing again. I find the rough line and cartooniness delightful - at once comical and visceral - and the contrasting nod to patterns and imagery from other cultures, other places begs the question: what exactly are these characters fighting over? Am I in an ancient tale of fantasy, chimaeras and sibling rivalry, or is this about something else entirely? Something more immediate - an argument of our times?
Who are these mirror images, and what are they going to bat for (so to speak)?
And meanwhile, while these bozos prepare to duke it out, the subject of the tussle meets our gaze, breathes steam, and waves its tail languidly, daring us to step in and have our say."

Feedback for Jill Bogaty: "Jill, I love this image, the determination and fierceness in the gaze coupled with an austere background. Really beautiful work". Laura Stanfill, Portland book publisher, Forest Avenue Press.
"Jill – This is a lovely study. I enjoy your focusing in on a few important, mood-telling details, with the rest implied and out of focus. You capture so well the combination of the strong spirit and delicate beauty of your subject." - Nicole Rawlins – Multnomah Arts Center Adult Visual Art Coordinator
Feedback for Joyce Tratnyek: "So darkly enigmatic Joyce - Your piece made me stop and look closer. It even made me look up the term “Immune” to see how it is reflected in your work - “protected or exempt, resistant, not affected or influenced by something”. It poses so many questions - closed doors, reaching for the bottle, and the lone lipstick in the corner. So interesting, well executed, and oh, so curious. Thanks for making us ponder your thoughtful work". Virginia McKinney, Visual Arts Lead and teacher, Multnomah Arts Center
"This is so mysterious and compelling! Each image looks like part of a larger story, but they also work well on their own. My eye keeps getting pulled into little moments like the bright red lipstick on the counter and the silhouetted hand reaching up from the shadows. They hint at a narrative without giving too much away. Nice work." - David Schell, Artist. davidscottschell.com
Feedback for Zoe Reece: "This is a striking, gorgeous and well executed painting. You clearly have a strong eye for color, shape, and balance. Great composition and attention to detail of the subject. Keep it up! This work strongly reminds me of “The son of man” by Belgian artist René Magritte". -Michael Walsh, Director, Multnomah Arts Center
"This is a beautiful portrait. The blending is exceptional and the surreal elements are perfectly executed. The clouds are done really well. I can't stop looking at this painting." -Jeremy Okai Davis, Artist. jeremyokaidavis.com
"The combination of the serene setting, calm figure and disturbing decapitation is fantastic. It took me a moment to realize what was going on, but as soon as I did I felt even more impressed by the calm look on the young woman’s face."-David Schell, Artist. davidscottschell.com
Feedback for Sarah Armstrong: "This is a very strong composition and the color blocking is beautiful. There is a graphic nature to this painting that is really striking. -Jeremy Okai Davis, Artist. jeremyokaidavis.com
"This piece depicts such a simple moment - putting on or taking off a shoe - but also suggests a story that I want to know more about. Is the person coming or going? Are there two people in the room? Or is it one person trying on different outfits? I really respond to the bold shapes and beautiful colors in your composition. They keep pulling me back into your picture. Well done!" - David Schell, Artist. davidscottschell.com
Feedback for Kalin Emerson: "The gesture and loose application is really highlighted by the stark white background. Restraint in art can be hard and you've done a great job of leaving negative space to allow the image to breathe." -Jeremy Okai Davis, Artist. jeremyakaidavis.com
"I love how this painting exists somewhere between being representational and abstract. It shows a willingness on your part to take risks and make distortions to get the expressive quality you were looking for. Also, I just really like that foot!" - David Schell, Artist. davidscottschell.com
Feedback for Ava Wisdom: "I think this is really cool! Great use of found objects to create a Mini Sculpture. Well done Ava!" Stan Robinson -Portland artist. stanrobinsonart.com
Feedback for Emma Janke: "Lovely painting, Emma. So stark, open yet empty, the exterior brought into the interior, quiet yet powerful - so interesting! You are clearly investigating light, space and absence - and you express those ideas beautifully." -Virginia McKinney, Visual Arts Lead and teacher, Multnomah Arts Center
Feedback for Isabelle Dawson: "Nice work Isabelle - Great use of values! Values are hard for a lot of people, but you really pulled this off nicely. I also like the composition". -Stan Robinson - Portland artist. stanrobinsonart.com

Feedback for Alexy Leeper: "This is a great usage of a recognizable image (face in profile) to make a pattern. It abstracts nicely. I would love to have this on a sweatshirt or jacket. I could also see it as an album cover." -Jeremy Okai Davis, Artist. jeremyokaidavis.com
"Alexey – This is a great design and pattern! I can see it in lots of different color schemes. Totally appealing. Nice fluid marks." - Nicole Rawlins – Multnomah Arts Center Adult Visual Art Coordinator

"I like the juxtaposition of the sweet, innocent doll with the looming eyeballs. Dream?… Or nightmare?! Nice transparent veil work on the figure, and framing the piece. That and the use of the ribbon help to add movement and mystery to the piece." Nicole Rawlins – Multnomah Arts Center Adult Visual Art Coordinator
Feedback for Grace Ellers: "Great work, Grace! Deceptively simple at first, it reminds me of a block print. Your screenprint is wonderfully playful and humorous, and I genuinely did LOL. Let me know if you are ever taking orders. I’d love one ; )." -Michael Walsh, Director, Multnomah Arts Center
"You did a nice job simplifying Gandhi’s face – a successful design that captures the essentials with clean, contoured shapes and line. Plus, a fun use of text/font. Great t-shirt design." - Nicole Rawlins – Multnomah Arts Center Adult Visual Art Coordinator
Feedback for Lillie Banks: "This painting has some real magic going on. Interpreting the symbols and marks is really satisfying. I encourage young artists to tackle a series based on a unique idea. It helps to work out many scenarios. Often a single artwork can bring a lot of pressure on the maker. Work on several papers/canvases/boards etc at a time, and give yourself the gift of multiple investigations". Leiv Fagereng - Visual Artist. leivfagereng.com
Feedback for Liam Hyland: "This is really awesome. I appreciate the purity and simplicity of the subtractive mark making. Def want to see this closer and take in the image. Well done! " Leiv Fagereng - Visual Artist. leivfagereng.com
Feedback for Adriana Steinberg: "I always respond to textile artworks. My mother was a committed printmaker working on both 2D paper and fabrics of many kinds. She loved the multiple images created from a single print: found in the rotation 90 + 180 degrees. I dig this. This might be acrylic paint? Or ink? " Leiv Fagereng - Visual Artist. leivfagereng.com
Feedback for Jordan McElroy: "Fantastic emotion here. Excellent! I have a saying that “the art world is full of sugar and fluff, and I want to deliver a HAM SANDWICH that will stay in your memory for days/years/lifetime. Keep it up…. Really great". Leiv Fagereng - Visual Artist. leivfagereng.com
Feedback for Matt Reamy: "I love everything about this piece. The composition is strong and the swipes of color are bold, but with lovely subtle “push and pulls” and emotions in the brush strokes, which makes the piece feel very alive and fresh and the exact the right amount of “done” The artist could have easily overworked this piece but knew exactly when to stop. I appreciate the “openness” this piece offers, which invites the viewer to start telling their story as well". Shelley Turley, artist. shelleyturley.com
Feedback for Chloe Moehling: "I have 50 questions about this artwork…. Very striking indeed. The white back light behind this character really gives it a POP. I see a series here. Is there a series here? I dig it." Leiv Fagereng - Visual Artist. leivfagereng.com
"I just love this piece! Your textures and colors go so well with the creepy grin and twisted foot of your creature. It’s both charming and scary and it’s making me look twice at the umbrellas on my mud porch." -David Schell, Artist. davidscottschell.com
Feedback for Timothee Martin: "This painting gives me everything I love in art: Love, despair, sorrow, humor, glamour.. with glimmers of hope and transcendence thrown in for good measure. The composition is strong; I love the use of the yellow box, which anchors the two figures together, and the juxtaposition of the old timey clown and “pop star?” make this piece super interesting and contemporary". Shelley Turley, Artist. Shelleyturley.com.
Feedback for J Belden: "I like the way you have structured this composition, with the light both drawing us through the space, allowing us to move between the named Exit, and the tree/forest space that feels like the exit I would actually like to enter. The atmosphere of this painting feels quiet, a little scary, but also serene. A kind of in-between space, maybe a space of uncertainty, or a dream". Heather Watkins, Artist, heatherwatkinsstudio.com
Feedback for Quinton Berglund: "I love how alive this painting feels and how it's chaotic elements are able to meld into a successful piece. It feels very honest and the use of words is great". Cynthia Lahti, artist. cynthialahti.blogspot.com
Feedback for Dani DeLaczy: "This is a lovely landscape that is very engaging and a great use of color, mark making and shape. My eye keeps finding delightful areas and I love the orange area at the end of the road, perhaps it is a bush? Don't really care, it is perfect there. I hope you continue to create. Also I have always found oil pastel difficult to use so I admire your skill in using them". Cynthia Lahti artist. cynthialahti.blogspot.com
Feedback for Niki Monsef: "I am drawn in and around this painting quickly—and I love the sense of movement, the way you create space that is lively and varied, but also well-organized by a strong color program. The different patterns evoke different sonic scapes for me, too. Thank you!"—Heather Watkins, Artist, heatherwatkinsstudio.com
Feedback for Cannon Daverin: "I enjoy your ability to create a deep and mysterious world with this painting. There is a lot of physical and psychological depth to the painting which allows me to emotionally respond to it. Wonderful". Cynthia Lahti artist. cynthialahti.blogspot.com
Feedback for Shotaro Norville: Lovely use of a limited palette for this portrait. Using a warm color in shadow can give the viewer an unexpected jolt. The empathy of the model comes across strongly here. Good work! Keep making cool paintings! -Will Bruno, visual artist. willbruno.com
Feedback for Colin Carmichael: Love the use of angular forms and saturated colors in your drawing here. It really gives the viewer a sense of time and place. A sort of zany 80’s 90’s feel. Exciting balance between the near overwhelming fuchsia on the right wall and the flame-like plant on the left. Good work! Keep exploring this world. -Will Bruno, Visual Artist. willbruno.com
Feedback for Ethan Hyland: "Really enjoying the playful, cubist shapes making up this character. They are in part, the pattern on the figure’s outfit, but then are also used to define the features of the figure’s face as well. The simplicity of the image is striking. The warm colors in the figures hair, down to the mauve in the shirt and pants play well against the yellow background. A good pair of white shoes go a long way. Keep it up, it’d be cool to see a series of these figures." Will Bruno, visual artist. Willbruno.com
"Ethan – I like the color and rhythm of your piece. Use of geometric shapes and bold blacks are effective. The sense is playful, but also bold and strong. I can see a sense of confidence in your subject and in your art making. Nice work!" Nicole Rawlins – Multnomah Arts Center Adult Visual Art Coordinator.
Feedback for Jake Nordstrom: "Very strong graphic image made me stop and think. The choices to leave the face in shadow, and the graphic on the hoodie unrecognizable are what gives the figure in this print mystery. I appreciate the subtle colors of the background and the way the color was applied. Great painterly approach with the stenciling". Chris Harmon Art Preparator, Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation and Printmaking Instructor, Multnomah Arts Center.
"Jake – Great print. The palette, contrast, and shapes come together simply and clearly. So mysterious and compelling". - Nicole Rawlins – Multnomah Arts Center Adult Visual Art Coordinator

Feedback for Marco Ponzi: "Marco – I can totally see you being a successful muralist. You have the right combination of bold color, contrast, and pattern. Though on the surface, your piece seems simple – it is really more complex and hints to a deeper narrative. I want to know the story!" - Nicole Rawlins – Multnomah Arts Center Adult Visual Art Coordinator

Feedback for Robbie Aiken: "Robbie – Nice punk – zine transformation of your subject. Reminds me of still from an 80’s A-Ha video (you'll have to google it) pop comic book fun." - Nicole Rawlins – Multnomah Arts Center Adult Visual Art Coordinator
Presenting Grey, our RGS guest artist! Kindergartener Grey Oji. (Ms. Becker's Kinder class) and high school principal Paula R. met this winter at the GS and developed a friendship. Since COVID they have become pen pals and this is a piece of Art they collaborated on pen pal style via snail mail. The title is "I Like You".
Feedback for Grey: "" Whimsical and fun! Great use of space, line, shape, and repetition. I like that there is a defined border and an intentional break that draws the eye outside the work. The combination of object, fantasy animal, and text provokes thought and reflection." "Aime Kelly, Children's Art DIrector, Multnomah Arts Center.
