Captains Test

Passing the Captain's test is a requirement to checkout RRC club 1X, 2X, and 4X boats. Captain's test can be administered by a RRC Coach or the Boathouse Captain. To schedule a Captain's test please reach out to The Boathouse Captain, Pam Murray murraypamelagraves07@gmail.com.

Captain's Test What to Expect

Demonstrate knowledge and/or skills in the following areas:

Terminology
Traffic Patterns
Safety & Equipment handling
Off the water
- Follow all sing-out procedures (reserving boats, whiteboard)
- Remove boat from rack
- Carry boat to water
- Place boat in water
- Put oars in and out of oar locks
- Remove boat from water
- Carry boat to boathouse
- Place boat on rack
- Complete sign-in procedures
On the water
- Launch boat without assistance
- Row through the bridge arch and back to dock
- Follow correct traffic patterns
- Execute emergency stop (hold water)
- Turn boat using both oars
- Back the boat
- Dock boat without assistance
