Rio Schools farm
Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders in Health and Agriculture
The Rio School District’s Regenerative Organic Agricultural Education Center (The Farm) is:
The Vision
The Farm will serve our community as a model school district-operated regenerative, organic farm producing nutritious fruits and vegetables for school cafeterias and create educational opportunities for our students to develop essential knowledge, skills, and abilities to build a healthy and resilient environment, food system, and community.
Two Elements
Food Production- The farm will grow fruit and vegetables row and tree crops using organic regenerative farming practices for Rio's Child Nutrition Services to incorporate into school meals and salad bars.
Agricultural Education- to engage students in hands-on, standard-aligned agricultural and culinary education with a focus on regenerative organic farming practices and whole food preparation.

The school farm will take an in-depth look at the ways farming and health are intertwined and why regenerative organic agriculture is the key to improving our human health.
The Rio District’s Regenerative Farm will produce an estimated 50-75 % worth of Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) food, per calendar school year, for food service to purchase.
The Rio School District’s Regenerative Farm will be one of the most innovative models in Ventura County, and California, for collaboration between students, farmers, medical professionals, and educators.
Establish a Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) farm in Ventura County as a state of the art outdoor learning laboratory for Rio del Valle and all District Schools to:
Produce ROC food for student consumption in the cafeteria.
The outdoor learning laboratory will develop the next generation of young learners to explore new agricultural career pathways through the application of regenerative principles.
Connect students to established leaders in healthcare, agriculture, and science.
