Diversity in the STEM field
How are equality and diversity important for the science field?
Our project
The idea for this project was conceived based on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. We chose the topics number 5 and 10, which are ''Gender Equality'' and ''Reduced Inequalities''.
Since we are students of the Cambridge International Science program, we decided to take those topics and direct them to the STEM area.
We chose to focus on three communities that, throughout the history of STEM, were not represented proportionally to their occurrences in the general population: women, black people and LGBTQIA+ community members.
We are aware of the fact that these are not all of the different groups we are able to identify in the STEM (we can quote indigenous people, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, for example), but we considered them the ones that covered most part of the population that, over time, suffered prejudice in the STEM field.
