Established in 1907, the Rikkyo University Alumni Association serves all undergraduate and graduate program alumni. Its goal is to facilitate mutual friendship among its members and to contribute to the financial development of Rikkyo University. It currently has more than 210,000 members.
Every year we offer support by our Alumni Association Scholarships and Alumni Association Study Abroad Scholarships for Students with Excellent Grades.
This year, we hosted an online Homecoming Day which is an event that all alumni enjoy much. Please, take a look at the Alumni You Tube Channel as it will be interesting for you, too.
The exchange between Rikkyo University and Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Pref. began in 2003.
Everything started with our students visiting every year Oide District of Yahagi-cho at Rikuzentakata for the “Forestry Experience” extra-curriculum activity of the Student Affairs Office. This program included lodging at local houses and the students continued visiting after the program completion which led to our long and deep relationship.
And then, on March 11, 2011 the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred… Rikuzentakata City was severely damaged. Rikkyo University recognized it as one of the priority regions in need of support and began to assist the reconstruction activities with our whole university network participation.
In 2017 with the cooperation of Rikuzentakata City we established the Rikuzentakata Global Campus as a cultural exchange center in collaboration with Iwate University.
At present our relationship with Rikuzentakata City still continues and we have numerous regular and extra-curriculum activities held there.
For example, from 2012 for the benefit of the local children the Baseball Club of Rikkyo University has been holding a baseball class and from 2013 our Women`s Volleyball Club has been holding a volleyball class.
Furthermore, as a part of the regular curriculum, the Rikuzentakata Project takes place there and not only Rikkyo students but also many students from Stanford University, Hong Kong University and the National University of Singapore visit Rikuzentakata and acquaint themselves with various local problems. (※In 2020 the Project was held online.)
In addition, many students visit Rikuzentakata for seminars and club activities, their number constantly increasing. By now it has reached 2000.
Currently there are various restrictions imposed on students` activities due to the spread of COVID infection. Being your sempai, our wish is that at least you should be able to eat delicious and enjoyable meals. We shall present Rikuzentakata special products to 1000 undergraduate and graduate students selected by lottery.
10 years have already passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake. We would like Rikkyo students to remember the fact that many people had suffered deeply and bored heavy damages because of the Earthquake and that there were many Rikkyo associates who had been tirelessly engaged with grass root work in support of the restoration activities.
Mr.Kazuyoshi Kono, the chairman of Yagisawa Shoten from Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Pref, who kindly cooperated with us this time, is also a graduate of Rikkyo University.
He had been producing miso and soy sauce at Rikuzentakata for many years when due to the Earthquake his shops, the factory, just everything was swept away.
Even so, he did not dismiss anyone of his employees and miraculously finding stored at a different place some “moromi”, the fermenting mash used in the miso and soy sauce production, managed to restore his production with its original taste from before the Earthquake.
Mr.Kono kindly agreed to cooperate with this project for the sake of Rikkyo students. Yagisawa Shoten Website
