★Continuing Students (from Fall 2025 to Spring 2026) ★

<Students taking Japanese language courses in Fall 2025>

 ⚫Basically, the Japanese Language Placement Test will NOT be offered for continuing students taking Japanese language courses in Fall 2025.

 ⚫Students who passed the following courses will be placed in 1 level higher than their present level (Fall 2025) in the next semester (Spring 2026).

   J0, J1, J1S, J2, J2S, J3, J3S, J4-J7 (grammar, reading, composition, listening & conversation)

 ⚫Students should check their own personal sheet which will be provided on late March by the International Office to know their level for Spring 2026.  Especially, students who enrolled in J3, J3S “Integrated Japanese 4-6”, “Integrated Japanese 6-8” or ” Business Japanese” in Fall 2025 are required to confirm their levels available for Spring 2026.

 ⚫If you wish to take a class two or more levels higher in Spring 2026, you may do so as long as you take the Japanese Language Placement Test ("Placement Test") on Monday, March 30 and reach the level of the relevant class. However, please note that the level may be lowered depending on your Placement Test result. Regarding the Placement Test, please refer to item 2 below. In order to take the Placement Test, you need to submit the Form A (below) by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 (JST).

Please follow the instructions below. 

 ⚫1. Submit the Form A (below) by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 (JST). If you fail to submit the Form A by the deadline, you cannot take any Japanese language courses.

※If you wish to take J0 course for Spring 2026, you do NOT need to take the Placement Test on March 30 as long as you submit the Form A above (1.) in order to clearly indicate your intention to take J0 course. 

<IMPORTANT>

*You cannot change your desired level.

*If you do not submit the Form A, you cannot take any Japanese language courses, even at J0 level, in Spring 2026.

★New Students for Spring 2026★

 Please follow the instructions below. 

⚫1. Fill out and submit the form about taking Japanese language courses to be sent by email. 

      Submission deadline is Tuesday, February 24.

⚫2.Take the Japanese Language Placement Test ("Placement Test")

    The Japanese language course level for Spring 2026 will be determined by your Placement Test result. 

     All the students who wish to take Japanese language courses or regular academic courses conducted in Japanese, except J0 level courses(※), are required to take the Placement Test on Monday, March 30.

＜2025年度秋学期に日本語科目を履修した学生＞

 ⚫2025年度秋学期に日本語科目を履修した学生に対しては、原則として、日本語プレイスメントテスト（「日本語PT」）は行いません。

 ⚫2025年度秋学期に以下の日本語科目の単位を取得した場合は、2026年度春学期に次の（1つ上の）レベルに進みます。

　特に、2025年度秋学期に、J3、J3S、総合日本語4-6、総合日本語6-8、Business Japaneseを履修した学生は、必ず2026年度春学期に履修可能なレベルを確認してください。

 ⚫2026年度春学期に2つ上のレベルのクラスを履修したい場合、3月30日（月）の日本語PTを受験し、当該クラスのレベルに達すれば履修することができます。ただし、日本語PTの結果によってはレベルが下がることもありますのでご注意ください。日本語PTの情報は、以下2.を確認してください。日本語PTを受験するためには、以下の2026年度春学期「日本語プレイスメントテスト受験申請フォーム（Form A）」を2026年3月10日（火）17:00までに提出してください。

★Dear continuing students for Fall Semester 2025 

Please read the following about taking Japanese language courses in Fall Semester 2025.

・Students who took the Japanese Language Placement Test in or before Spring Semester 2025 and would like to take only the regular academic courses conducted in Japanese at colleges/graduate schools in Fall Semester 2025 are not required to take the Japanese Language Placement Test.

・If you are enrolled in a Japanese language course in Spring Semester 2025 and wish to take a class two levels higher in Fall Semester 2025, you may do so as long as you take the Japanese Language Placement Test and reach the level of the relevant class. However, please note that the level may be lowered depending on the results of the Japanese Language Placement Test.

【Japanese Language Placement Test】

Date: Wednesday, September 3, 2025

Reception:Niiza Campus, Bldg. 8, 1st floor 12:45 pm - 1:30 pm (NOT Ikebukuro Campus!) 
Duration: Approximately 3 hours
　　　　　*The start time may be changed due to traffic delays, etc., so please take some spare time for your schedule.
Contents: Online test of grammar, vocabulary and kanji, composition and interview or Hiragana Test

                   *Test contents will be different depending on your desired level.
Things to bring: Pencils, eraser, and student ID card (or Residence card for new students)

＊Please check here for information about the Japanese course levels at Rikkyo University. 

・Students who have never studied Japanese or who have some experience studying Japanese but have not yet mastered Hiragana and Katakana perfectly and want to learn Japanese slowly are at the J0 level.

・Students who can read and write Hiragana and Katakana are at the J1 level. Students who wish to study at the J1 level should memorize Hiragana and Katakana before coming to Japan. Only students who pass the Hiragana test in the Japanese Language Placement Test can take J1 level courses.

★2025年度秋学期継続生のみなさん

2025年度秋学期の日本語科目の履修について、以下の点にご注意ください。

・継続学生へのプレイスメントテストは原則行いません。

・2025年度春学期に、以下の日本語科目の単位を取得した場合は、2025年度秋学期のクラスレベルは履修した科目の１つ上になります。

・2025年度春学期に日本語科目を履修していない場合、たとえ日本語の専門科目を履修していても、2025年度秋学期に日本語科目を履修したい場合は9月3日（水）に実施するプレイスメントテストを受験する必要があります。

    　　　*交通機関の遅れなどにより開始時間を変更することがあるので、当日の予定は余裕をみてください。

　テスト内容：コンピュータによる文法、語彙、漢字のテスト、作文、面接　or　ひらがなテスト

　　　　　　　※希望するレベルによってテスト内容が異なります。

　持ち物：鉛筆、消しゴム、学生証（新入生は在留カード)　

＊立教大学における日本語レベルについてはこちらをご確認ください。

   もしこれまでに日本語を勉強したことがない場合、また、少し勉強したことはあるが、ひらがな・カタカナが完璧ではないので、ゆっくり勉強したい場合はＪ0です。

　J1  を希望する場合には、ひらがな・カタカナが読めて書ける必要があります。 J1 で勉強したい人は、ひらがな・カタカナを覚えてきてください。

　日本語プレイスメントテストでは、ひらがなのテストに合格しなければ、J1 レベルの授業を履修することはできません。

「総合日本語6-8」の履修を希望する学生は、必ず①国際センターへ申請、②面談に参加する必要があります。

（1）“Business Japanese I” and “Business Japanese A” are both made up of 5 courses. Students are required to register for “Business Japanese I 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5” or “Business Japanese  A 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5” as a block.

（2）Students must have taken the Japanese Language Placement Test for the semester when these courses are offered.

（3）Even students eligible for these courses may not be able to enroll if those courses have exceeded their student quotas. This is because regular graduate students have priority.

（4）Further information on notes on course registration and course registration procedure will be given by the College/Graduate School of Business.

★Course List and Schedule

（1）｢Business Japanese I｣ と「Business Japanese A」は、それぞれ5科目から構成されています。「Business Japanese I」はI 1からI 5 の5科目を、「Business Japanese A」はA 1からA 5 の５科目を同時に履修することが必要です。

（2）開講される学期の日本語プレイスメントテストを受験していることが必要です。

（3）各科目には定員があります。対象とする日本語レベルであっても、正規課程の大学院生が優先されるため、履修できないことがあります。

（4）履修上の注意の詳細と履修登録方法は、経営学部/研究科の指示に従ってください。
