Reading, Writing, and Connections to History - Ms. LaChac
M - Th, 8:30 - 11:30 AM
Indian Hills High School, Media Center
The best way to improve both reading and writing is to simply read a wide range of materials. In summer, students should have fun choosing and exploring their own books, so in this session students will share the individual books they are reading (or recently completed), giving everyone a broader range of experiences to consider. Beyond just exploring the joy of reading, we’ll make historical connections, considering the context of the books in relation to culture and society (even if that society is set in the future or in a world inhabited by magic and dragons). We may also reverse the process, finding a time period of interest and discovering books that were written in, or about, that era. We can’t just talk about books, so expect some book-related games, crafts, and other activities mixed in.
