Amanda Thompson

Hello! I am Amanda Thompson. My family relocated to Ridgway the summer of 2017 from Norwood. I grew up in Georgia and went to Appalachian State University in North Carolina where I received my teaching degree and acquired a love for the mountains. I spent 3 years teaching in Asheville, NC. When I moved to Telluride in 2001 I never imagined I would spend the next 21 years in Colorado! I fell in love with the small town and taught in Telluride for 15 years. I worked as a special education para for two years, taught 5th grade at Telluride Intermediate School for eight years, and was the Title I reading specialist in 3rd-6th grade for five years. In that time I also completed my masters in Curriculum and Instruction and got my National Board Certification. My husband Jon and I have always loved Ridgway and were drawn to the school's focus on outdoor education and project based learning. We have been overwhelmed by the kindness of this magical community! I am happy to be back in the classroom teaching 5th grade. It's hard to believe daughter Bailey will be going to middle school this year and my daughter Emily will be in 4th grade! It will be a different year with the RES renovation but I am looking forward to another great year!
