Mrs. Isom-Fuess is in her 21st year of public school teaching. She grew up on a farm near Boise, Idaho. She loves plants and animals as well as cooking and kayaking. Mrs. Isom attended BYU-Provo and earned a B.A. in English Secondary Education. She also took courses in Spanish, and earned a double minor: German Teaching and Russian Language and Literature. She loves being a student herself, and completed her Master's in Spanish in 2022 from CSU Pueblo!
She has lived in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Spain, Mexico, and India with various programs and work. She studied a semester of history, art, and culture in Vienna, Austria. She lived in the German-speaking area of Europe for almost two years for a church mission. In Moscow, Russia she taught a year of English to kindergarten children. In Spain she completed a summer of teacher education in language, art, history, and culture. She has spent several summers living in Guadalajara and DF (Distrito Federal), in Mexico with local friends, and has taught TOEFL, IELTS, and piano as a volunteer while her husband worked in Delhi, India for a year. Haan, vah thodee hindee bolatee hai (Yes, she speaks a little Hindi).
Señora/Frau Isom is very happy to have landed in one of the most beautiful areas of Colorado, where her husband lived several years before they met! She loves Ridgway, the people and students here, and is committed to teaching them to speak, read, and write Spanish and/or German, as they will well use any and all foreign languages they learn during the course of their lives!

For all World Language courses, students are required to do:
Homework
STUDY vocab/phrases via Quizlet with the sound on several times per set BEFORE the quiz. Average for quizzes: Every 2-3 weeks.
For Spanish courses, students are required to read: 2 Garbanzo.io stories/week.
All World Languages students must complete at least one, independent, self-chosen culture investigation/presentation project per quarter.
General Class Policies
Participation in World Languages via speaking, listening, reading, writing, games practice, singing, pronunciation, etc. = roughly 50% of total class grade. There is a grade and detailed rubric dedicated toward this worth 100 points, yet our class includes many more participatory activities. Students who tune out (very few do, as I make things fun and engaging) or do not actively participate may fail the course.
No cell phones or ear buds. Points taken (General Class Participation monthly grade) for unrelated electronics use.
Late policy: -10/day. Assignments done together in class are graded at the end of class. Students who were present, but chose not to participate or attempt to hurriedly copy another's work before the end of class will receive a 0. When students are ill, school policy per Mr. Randolph is that you get one day to catch up before the next class. If you are ill two days, you get two additional days to catch up, upon return, etc. When assignments are past due, a 0 is entered in the Schoology. Check Schoology often: Open your folders and click on "Grades" to see WHEN assignments are due BEFORE they are due. These are also written up on the board, regularly gone over in class, and posted in Schoology Updates, and if you erroneously wait for a 0 to appear in the Gradebook, you will regulary receive LATE POINTS.
