I was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa, were my parents taught me to love the outdoor life. We camped, canoed , road bicycled and cross country skied before they became popular, and on our hikes at Stone Park they taught me to identify all the trees and birds. I owe my love of science to my High School teachers Gene Ulrich and Ed Fortner, who influenced me greatly and nudged me towards my degree and interest in teaching. I am very happy to have landed in Ridgway, where I started my woodworking business, got married, raised my two amazing children, and have lived the life of mountain adventure for more than 30 years. I restarted my teaching career in 2009 when I was hired to teach industrial arts in Ridgway, and have been motivated by my students and colleagues ever since. I am still busy with woodworking when I am not teaching, and enjoy sailing, hiking, skiing, mountain biking and sailing ( did I say sailing already?)
I am a "hands-on" person who battles with computer anxiety, please be patient with my learning curve. Use the video below to learn how to monitor your student's activity in my classes. You are always welcome to make an appointment to meet before or after school if you feel the need discuss anything pertinent.
