There are many technical products and services we use to run our district as productively and safely as possible.Â
1. WOCO - Our ITC
Provides our internet service
Provides web filtering for our district
Provides email filtering and archiving for our district
Hosts our Student Information Service programs (ProgressBook, GradeBook, etc.)
2. Google - G Suite
We are a Google Apps for Education organization. We use the Google G Suite service for the sharing and collaboration of various Google documents (i.e. Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Mail)
All staff and students are given a Ridgemont Google domain account to use, which is managed in the Google Admin console.
3. Chromebooks (1:1 and classroom devices)
Chromebooks are laptop-type devices that run the the Google ChromeOS system. Very little data is stored on the device itself, as Chromebooks are designed to be used primarily online.
We manage the Chromebooks using the Google Admin console. This console allows us to perform certain actions remotely on the Chromebooks, such as deploying specific apps and settings without having to go to each device individually.
4. GoGuardian
A program we implemented when we went 1:1 with our JH/HS students. It gives us a secondary layer of web filtering that is more specific to students using a school issued device. It allows us to set policies and monitors web activity that alerts us whenever a policy has been triggered.
If you have questions about GoGuardian, please don't hesitate to contact me.
GoGuardian Teacher is an add-on that is used by classroom teachers to create managed and/or locked sessions to ensure that students are staying on task while in class.
5. Schoology
Online LMS (Learning Management System)
Teachers can upload and share assignments, content, and resources for student access
Integration with Google allows users to login to Schoology using single sign-on based on their school account. This means not having to remember a separate username and password to access this online service. In addition, it easily allows students to upload and share homework assignments to their teachers directly from their Google Drive.
Like ProgressBook, Schoology provides Parent Access Codes for parents/guardians to view their child's activity. Each student is assigned an access code, so if you have multiple children, you will have to register each access code individually.
