Students will be introduced to complex themes, characters, and literary devices and forms through both classic and modern works of literature. Students will expand their written language skills by practicing informational, narrative, and analytical writing. Students will also explore the identities, perspectives, and experiences of various authors through their poetry, short stories, and novels.
Students will develop and expand their use and understanding of academic English by exploring a series of short stories, essays, and poems focused on equipping students with the skills necessary to navigate a professional world that necessitates a mastery of the English language. Students will engage in routine practice of grammar, written, and spoken English language development. Students will also expand their knowledge and skills by cultivating a personal interest in reading for individual development.Â
Students will begin developing skills in English language acquisition necessary for conversation, academic success, and integration into an English speaking community. Students will practice engaging with each other and other members of their academic community both verbally and in writing, while gaining and sharpening the necessary grammar, vocabulary, and translanguaging skills. Students will expand their English language skills through the use of poems, essays, short stories, and personal narratives.
