What is Symphonic Band? 

The Symphonic Band (formerly known as Wind Ensemble) is an extra-curricular select ensemble that performs challenging concert band literature, and competes in a festival in early June.  Rehearsals will take place every Tuesday before school at 7:00 AM; there will also be one evening rehearsal in December, and another in May.  We also perform at an adjudicated festival/field trip every spring in late May or early June.

Audition Requirements: 

1. Prepared musical excerpt for your instrument (see below)

2. Major Scales (minimum of one octave, memorized) as listed below: 

• Flute: B-flat and E-flat scales 

• Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Tenor Sax:  C and F scales 

• Alto Sax, Baritone Sax & Alto Clarinet:  G and C scales 

• Trumpet:  C and F scales

• French Horn:  C and F scales

• Trombone, Tuba & Baritone Horn (bass clef): B-flat and F scales 

• Mallet percussion: B-flat and E-flat scales, with alternate sticking 

• Percussion rudiments: Flams, Paradiddles, 5-stroke rolls
