Title: Building Community in the Virtual World
Presenter: Melissa Quirk Cairns
Description:
Online learning has transformed everything we do, but whether our classrooms are virtual or face-to-face, there is a broad selection of online tools available for developing a feeling of community. Educating students begins with building relationships: between student and teacher, between students, and between the class and the content. In a strong classroom community, students are more engaged, and therefore more likely to succeed academically. In this drop in session, I will share some ideas for engaging activities that have worked for me including: online games (Kahoot!, Pictionary, Uno), teacher-led games (Song Title with Emojis, anyone?), and community circles.
This workshop is suitable for teachers of all ages/grade levels pre-k through post-secondary. There are some paid features, but most resources I will share have no cost associated with them.
