"Ivy and Bean: What's the Big Idea" by Annie Barrows is a fantastic chapter book to read aloud in a kindergarten classroom. The story begins with Ivy and Bean's second-grade class learning about climate change and global warming. Their teacher explains that the world is getting hotter due to pollution, which can harm life on Earth. To help students understand this important issue, the teacher assigns a class project in which they must come up with ideas to help mitigate global warming. Ivy and Bean are very curious about the topic and start brainstorming. They come up with silly, over-the-top plans that make complex scientific concepts more accessible to younger students.
