Fifth Grade 2026-2027
ELA and Social Studies
My hope is that students will find a love for reading and writing while having fun along their journey in 5th grade. They will learn to read for comprehension, apply comprehension strategies, write meaningful essays and so much more! Students will also explore ways to improve their writing by applying the skills they've learned in language arts. I want students to leave my class feeling confident in their reading, writing and grammar skills.
About me
Welcome to Fifth Grade! I am thrilled to be back for my 5th year in a row as a Grade 5 teacher. After teaching 4th grade here at Richland, I took a few years off with my son. I am grateful that I was able to work my way back into the classroom when my son was ready to enter his learning journey. I look forward to another wonderful 2026-2027 school year.
I've always enjoyed kids and truly have a passion for teaching. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. To further my education, I attended the University of Phoenix Online. By April of 2008, I earned my Master of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education.
My teaching career began with 1st grade at St. Andrew School. It was a terrific experience that led me to a future of teaching different grade levels here at Richland Elementary School. When I began at Richland, I taught 4th grade for about 9 years. Then, I took some time off to raise my son. At the start of his preschool year, I decided it would be a great time to begin teaching again. Luckily in 2020-2021, I had the amazing opportunity to teach 5th grade as a long term sub. During this time, I was able to learn a lot about technology and enjoyed being back in the classroom. In 2021-2022, I had the joyous experience teaching my own Kindergarten class. Now, I get to see this Kindergarten class again as 5th graders!
To me, teaching is exciting, rewarding, and challenging. Children are the most important part of the education system, and I plan on doing my best to make sure that your child achieves to the best of his/her ability. With open communication and cooperation, this year will be a success.
