Reading: 

We are continuing with our novel this week, Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo. We will independently and cooperatively read chapters 9 through 15. Students will conduct two literature circle meetings. They are student-led groups that help to enhance comprehension and engagement by focusing on specific chapters of a novel. Students will be assigned a specific role for each literature circle meeting. The roles are as follows: discussion director, literary luminary, vocabulary extender, illustrator, and connector. A quiz on Ch. 6-10 will be administered Wednesday.

Language Arts: 

We are continuing our unit on figurative language. Students will identify and write using each type of figurative language: similes, metaphors, alliteration, idioms, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, and personification. 

The writing assignment this week is to write a paragraph(s) response to a May Wk. 2 prompt. The LA Journal is due Friday. 

Spelling:

Students will complete a pretest on Unit 4-3 list words on Monday. The pattern for this lesson is /u/ vowel sounds. We will review the words in context throughout the week. Monday's homework is to write each word twice on the given handout. A Blooket can be found in Google Classroom to independently prepare for the test. The test will be administered on Friday. Your child's test may then be reviewed in his/her email account accessed by using his/her username@richlandrams.net.
