✏️This Week's Homework:

Reading: 

Monday-Friday: Reading Log (Read for at least 15 minutes and complete each day's written response.)

Tuesday: Please sign and return the Reading Log parent letter.

Wednesday: The Pumpkin Runner visualization chart due; The Pumpkin Runner quiz

Language Arts:

Spelling: 

Monday: Unit 1-1 handout (write spelling words twice)

Friday: Unit 1-1 spelling test 

Reading: 

Students will begin their reading logs this week. Reading logs will then continue weekly throughout the remainder of the school year. Students must read nightly for at least 15 minutes. A handout will be sent home at the beginning of the week with each night's question to the reading. The handout must be returned each day, in that it is considered a homework assignment. The response handout is graded (2 points for each response). A parent reading log informational letter is being sent home Monday. Please sign and return to school ASAP.  

The Pumpkin Runner visualization chart is due Wednesday. There will also be a short quiz on this story Wednesday. Quiz content will be reviewed in class. 

The reading skill we will focus on this week is main idea and supporting details. We will use a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts to review and practice this skill. 

Language Arts:

Students will begin language arts reviewing the writing process and writing a narrative paragraph(s) on their favorite summer memory. I will be modeling each stage of the writing process to help them independently complete their paragraphs. 

Spelling:

Students will be given a pretest Monday on Unit 1 Less.1 list words. The pattern this week is short vowel sounds. The homework assignment for Monday is to write the list words twice. We will complete spelling activities for these list words this week. The students may use the Blooket in Google Classroom to independently study for the test. The test will be administered on Friday, Sept. 18.
