Students will complete writing to a text dependent analysis prompt (TDA) using the acronym RACES with a persuasive text. The TDA response will be guided using a graphic organizer to formulate the written response. Students will have a RACES quiz Friday. They have to know what each letter of the RACES acronym stands for when writing a TDA response.

A Wordly Wise Lesson 1 packet will be distributed and reviewed Monday. Students will have to learn the definitions of fifteen vocabulary words and use them in context. The packet has five sections which will be primarily completed in class to help in reviewing the definitions and using the terms in context. Students will make flashcards in class for independent review of the vocabulary words. A Blooket and Quizlet are in our Google Classroom to also help in studying the terms.

At the end of the week, we will be beginning our unit on text structures. Cause and effect is the first example of a text structure that we will be focusing on using nonfiction text.
*7 AR points due by Mar. 20, 2026.
Language Arts:
Students will begin the week reviewing the format of a persuasive essay using the acronym OREO. We will view a variety of examples and identify the components in each of the persuasive essays. Students will write a five paragraph persuasive essay trying to convince their families to eat at their favorite restaurant. They will begin the prewriting stage by completing a graphic organizer and then transitioning to writing their rough drafts. Multiple resources for this writing project are in our Google Classroom. A rubric will be used to assess their published essays. This assignment is worth forty points. The persuasive essay will take us several weeks to complete.
Spelling:
Students have already taken a pretest on Unit 2-5 list words. The pattern is suffixes. Their homework assignment Monday is to write each of the list words twice. The list words will be sorted by their suffixes and used in context throughout the week. There is a Blooket in Google Classroom for independent preparation for the test. The Unit 2-5 test will be administered Friday. Your child's test may then be reviewed in his/her email account accessed by using his/her username@richlandrams.net.
