Reading:
We are continuing this week with our novel, Charlie Bumpers Vs. the Teacher of the Year, by Bill Harley. Students have received Ch. 6-10 vocabulary handouts, vocabulary cards (review matching activity), and novel packets. Comprehension checks will be administered every two chapters. Throughout the novel we will be practicing reading strategies, specific skills, and constructed writing responses.
Click here for the Vocabulary Words for Ch. 6-10.
*Accelerated Reading letters have been sent home. Students are required to obtain 5 AR points for the second marking period. This will count towards their reading grade. Each novel is worth a specific number of points. After reading their novels, students should complete an AR quiz. They must pass the quiz with at least 7/10 or 4/5 depending on the number of questions on the quiz. If the student does not pass the quiz, no AR points will be earned. Please sign the AR letter ASAP and return it to school with your child. I will send home a slip at the midway point in the marking period with the number of points your child has earned thus far. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Myon is a feature of the Accelerated Reader program. Students have access to a wide array of book topics. Upon completing the book, the students may take an Accelerated Reader test. They have practiced navigating through this program. Students may use Myon at home to read their books, but they have to take the accompanying test in school. The student login site for Renaissance Learning is on our Google Classroom. Myon books may be used for nightly log assignments.
Language Arts:
This week we will continue our grammar unit on nouns. Students will form plural nouns correctly using the singular nouns' endings. They will also identify nouns in text. The students will complete a plural nouns handout for homework on Thursday.
Spelling:
Students completed a pretest on Unit 2 Less.1 list words last Monday. The list words were sorted by their prefixes and used in context. Blookets can be found in Google Classroom to use for independent test preparation. The students will also be responsible for learning the nine prefix definitions. They will take a quiz on prefix definitions Thursday. The students will complete a spelling test Friday on a Google Form. Your child's test may then be reviewed in his/her email account accessed by using his/her username@richlandrams.net.
