Reading:
We will begin reading our novel, Charlie Bumpers Vs. the Teacher of the Year, by Bill Harley this week. The students will learn some interesting facts about the author. They will be given vocabulary words for chapters one through five. A vocabulary quiz will be administered next week. Students may use Quizlet in Google Classroom, as well as their vocabulary cards, to review their words. They will also receive a novel study packet for the first five chapters. Reading skills and strategies will be reviewed and practiced throughout the novel.

Language Arts:
Students will continue identifying run-on sentences and rewriting them to form complete sentences. They have learned several ways to correctly rewrite a run-on sentence, including correct conjunction usage. Tuesday's homework is a handout to practice correctly rewriting run-on sentences.
Students will continue working on their writing activity in class this week using the writing process. They will be writing to a given prompt about thankfulness. The rubric for assessment was reviewed in class. Students will be assessed on correctly using each stage of the writing process and properly developing their paragraphs.
Spelling:
Students will not be given a pretest or have any assigned homework this week since this is a review of Unit 1. We will complete spelling activities for these list words this week. The students may use the Blooket and spelling games links in Google Classroom to independently study for the test. The test will be administered on Friday, Oct. 23.
