WELCOME TO THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR!

Week of August 25
We will be learning about emotions and identifying them in pictures. We will also be reviewing class and school rules and discussing how we can be a friend to others.
Students will review models on how to properly brush their teeth. We will begin to brushing teeth after lunch each day.
Math and ELA-Students will practice identifying beginning letter sounds, identifying 2D shapes, matching numbers with objects, and identifying new sight words.
Books/Videos-Clark the Shark, Sully the Sea Horse, and Ocean Animals (video).
Tasty Tuesday-Students will try colored goldfish crackers. They will also sort them by colors.
Sensory/Fine Motor Activities-Students will play with water tables, trace lines with objects, make a jelly fish craft, and pick up goldfish crackers using large tweezers.
Life Skills/Socialization-Students will play various group games using dice and also play "Ocean Bingo". They will also learn about hot and cold objects and safety rules at school.
Week of Sept. 9: Dinosaur Theme
Math and ELA: Students will be learning how to add using number lines, ordering numbers (before and after), differentiating between the letter "b" and "d", and learning new sight words (stop. help, and hi). They will also be introduced to using the White Board to play interactive phonics and math games on Pink Cat website.
Stories/Videos- Fossils, How to Catch a Dinosaur, and videos on identifying different kinds of dinosaurs.
Tasty Tuesday-Students will try dino shaped chicken tenders.
Sensory/Fine Motor Activities-Students will "dig" for dinosaurs using a sand sensory bin, trace capital and lower case letters, and practice printing "b" and "d" using finger paint.
Life Skills/Socialization-Student will be instructed on good hygiene habits regarding coughing and sneezing and will be learning about how to prevent germs. They will also be playing group card games, such as Uno.
Week of September 15 - Apple Theme
ELA and Math - Students will learn about the short "a" sound and will practice identifying the sound in words. They will also to continue to work on identifying sight words without pictures this week. In math class, students will be introduced to clocks and how they tell time. They will also continue to work on solving addition problems using a number line.
Tasty Tuesday - Students will try apples with caramel dip.
Sensory/Fine Motor Activities - Students will construct art work using apples. They will also be introduced to musical line tracing activities.
Life Skills/Socialization - Students will learn about what makes a good friend (character traits) and how they can be a good friend to others. They will also play group games such as "Heads Up 7-Up".
Week of September 22 - Fall Theme **Homecoming Dress Up Days**
ELA and Math - Students will continue learning about short "a" words and beginning and ending sounds in words. They will also be introduced to sentence structure. In Math class, they will be introduced to using tally marks for counting. Students will also practice solving addition problems using a number line.
Tasty Tuesday - Students will sample apple cider.
Sensory/Fine Motor Activities - Students will color a leaf picture using watercolors. They will also attempt to create objects using Play-Doh and play in rice and bean bins.
Life Skills/Socialization - Students will be introduced to community signs. They will also practice matching pictures of various signs of women's and men's restrooms.
Week of September 29 - Camping Theme
ELA and Math - Students will review the short "a" sound for the last week and will be working on their reading and comprehension skills. In Math class, students will be learning how to compare numbers (greater than and less than). They will also practice counting tally marks to 20.
Tasty Tuesday - Students will sample a smore.
Sensory/Fine Motor Activities - Students will make fall pictures using playdoh. They will also paint pictures using Q-Tips and dobbers.
Life Skills/Socialization - Students will learn about healthy and non-healthy food choices. They will also learn about what foods are served at different meals during the day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack). They will also continue to practice identifying community signs.
Week of October 6 - Farm Theme
ELA and Math - Students will be introduced to the short "o" sound and will be completing activities identifying short "o" words. In Math class, students will be learning how to count dimes and nickels (counting by 5s and 10s). They will also be reviewing solving addition problems on a number line.
Tasty Tuesday - Students will sample veggie straws and cheese sticks. We will also be discussing foods that come from farms.
Sensory/Fine Motor Activities - Students will practice tracing various lines and making designs out of toothpicks.
Life Skills/Socialization - Students will cut out food from newspaper ads and pretend to make a healthy breakfast, dinner, and snacks. They will continue to practice identifying safety signs.
Week of October 13 - Bats and Spiders
ELA and Math - Students will continue to learn to identify short "o" words and read stories containing the short "o" sound. They will also match the words to pictures. In Math class, students will count by 10s to 100 and identify the numbers when presented to them. They will also be reviewing counting nickels and dimes.
Tasty Tuesday - Students will sample Oreos and pretzel stick "bats".
Sensory/Fine Motor Activities - Students will use dobber paints to color a Halloween picture and tear paper to decorate a pumpkin.
Life Skills/Socialization - Discussion on kindness with students and how they can be kind to others at home and at school. They will also be learning about compliments and what compliments are appropriate.
Week of October 20 - Ghosts
ELA and Math - This will be the last week students will be working on the short "o" sound. They will also be listening to short stories and answering comprehension questions to the stories. In Math class, students will be introduced to adding 3 digits using a number line.
Tasty Tuesday - Students will sample vanilla pudding.
Sensory/Fine Motor Activities - Students will make a ghost craft using cotton balls and trace Halloween objects.
Life Skills/Socialization - Students will learn about community helpers. They will be assisted in matching occupations to the job responsibilities.
Week of October 27-Halloween
Reminder-No school on Monday
ELA and Math Halloween activities such as matching CVC words to pictures, listening to stories and answering comprehension questions, and learning how to use a number grid. On Wednesday, crew members from East Hills Ambulance Company will be coming to our classroom and the students will be assisting them with packing Halloween candy to give out to trick-or-treaters.
Week of November 4 - Bears
ELA and Math - Students will be introduced to the short "i"sound in CVC words. They will also be learning how to put words in order to make sentences. In Math, they will be introduced to the base ten concept and will determine what 2 numbers add to make 10.
Tasty Tuesday - Teddy Grahams
Life Skills/Socialization-Students will learn about what clothes to wear during different times of the year. They will match the clothes with the seasons. Students will also learn about Veterans Day and why it is celebrated. They will color thank you cards that will be given to a local serviceman that will be deployed shortly.
Week of November 10
Ela and Math-Students will continue to complete various activities on identifying words with the short "i" sound. They will also continue to work with base 10 frames to identify missing addends in an equation. They will be introduced to "long" and "cube" manipulatives to represent 2 digit numbers.
No Tasty Tuesday due to Veteran's Day holiday.
Life Skills/Socialization - Students will practice identifying safety/community signs and also interact with each other while playing group games.
week of November 17
ELA and Math - Students will work on identifying short "i" words for the last week. They will also be reviewing learned sight words and answering comprehension questions to Thanksgiving stories being read to them. In Math class, they will continue to work on base 10 frames and also practice identifying 2 digit numbers.
Tasty Tuesday - Students will follow step by step directions to make a cold sandwich.
Life Skills/Fine Motor/Socialization - Students will be assisted in making a turkey craft by saying what they are thankful for. They will also use different materials (paints, crayons, colored pencils, etc.) to color Thanksgiving pictures.
Week of November 24 - Thanksgiving Theme (Short week 2 1/2 days)
ELA and Math - Students will review identifying CVC words that contain the vowel sounds that they have learned this school year ("a", "o", and "i"). They will be introduced to telling time to the half hour intervals in Math class.
Tasty Tuesday - Students will learn how to set a table using silverware, cups, plates, and napkins. They will enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together.
Life Skills/Fine Motor/Socialization - Students will use watercolors and tear up tissue paper to create Thanksgiving crafts.
We will be having a Thanksgiving party next week and watch a movie as a treat!
Week of December 2- Polar Bears (No school on Monday, December 1)
ELA and Math - Students will be introduced to the short "e" sound and will work on answering comprehension questions to short passages that are orally read to them. In Math class, they will be reviewing subtraction by solving simple subtraction problems using manipulatives. They will also be learning about paper money bills and will practice matching the bills with their values.
Tasty Tuesday - ice cream
Life Skills/Fine Motor/Socialization - Students will use Playdoh to decorate Christmas trees and make ornaments. They will also use Q-Tips and paint to color paper ornaments. Students will also chose Christmas cards to give to special people in their families and at school. They will be assisted in writing messages inside the cards and then delivering them to people in school.
