This class introduces the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design while producing two and three-dimensional works of art. Areas of study include drawing, painting, print-making, clay, sculpture, etc. This course fulfills the Fine Art graduation requirement.
ART II

A second year course that provides an opportunity for students to expand on the drawing and painting concepts introduced in Studio in Art. Emphasis is placed on experiences with design principles, drawing techniques and painting skills leading to the development of abilities that are necessary for advanced art courses.
ART III

In Art 3 the students will continue experimenting with different mediums, techniques, and artistic styles to produce work that begins to integrate a personal style. Students will continue to learn about master artists and be able to compare and contrast their works.
ART IV

With some guidance the students in High School Art 4 will develop their own personal style in their artwork. Students will have more freedom in the media and the choices of art that they choose to do. Originality in expressing ideas is emphasized by studying various approaches to composition
GUITAR

Students will learn the basics of playing guitar at a beginning level through studying music notation, chord symbols, and peer modeling. A brief history of the guitar along with a study of its respective musical styles will also be covered in this course.
The main objective of this course is to create an enhanced appreciation for music through playing the guitar. Students will learn how to read music notation, chord symbols, and tablature. Students will also gain a better understanding of many different musical genres including classical, flamenco, blues, jazz, rock, and pop music.
MUSIC APPRECIATION

Music Appreciation is for students who need a fine art credit who are not enrolled in a vocal or instrumental class. The first semester covers the history of music from the Renaissance to 1900, focusing on classical music and jazz. The second semester covers 1900 to the present, beginning with jazz and covering folk, country, Broadway, rock, etc. Basic music theory is included along with introductory piano instruction in the music technology lab. All curriculum is web-based with multiple electronic performance resources.
CHOIR

This is a year-long course that explores choral music from a wide variety of cultures and time periods through study and performance. ... Students in Treble Chorus are expected to participate in one evening concert each quarter as a major part of their grade.
BEGINNING BAND

This class offers the band experience at the beginning level. The instruments taught are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba and percussion. No experience is necessary – only the will and desire to play an instrument. Musical topics are introduced such as reading, music notation, analyzing and evaluating music, as well as composing and improvising simple melodies. The students present a Winter and Spring Concert.
HIGH SCHOOL BAND

Prerequisite: Successful completion of beginning band or teacher permission
This course is designed to give the student an enriching and diverse instrumental music education. This class provides a number of performance opportunities for the student in a variety of settings. The daily objective of the course is to foster and promote musical growth through the playing of an instrument by the student. As a member of the band program, group effort and cooperation is necessary to a successful program. Band is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout this course.
