WHS Honors Academy: SOAR

 AP Capstone Program

Scholars of Academic Rigor

The WHS SOAR Honors Academy consists of a small group of students who want to advance their own education through AP and Honors classes, college experiences, community outreach, and enrichment activities. As a member of SOAR, these students also participate in the AP Capstone program.

AP Capstone™ is a diploma program from the College Board based on two yearlong AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. These courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. Students who complete the two-year program can earn one of two different AP Capstone awards, which are valued by colleges across the United States and around the world.

As part of the AP Capstone program, Academy scholars complete other College Board Advanced Placement courses, dual-enrollment courses, and honors-level courses, conduct independent and original research, create formal presentations for audiences, and participate in college experiences, enrichment activities, and community service. SOAR Academy emphasizes independent, rigorous, and creative opportunities where students learn outside the confines of a traditional classroom or discipline. We feel this program combines the importance of academic rigor and performance with the best of independent intrinsic learning and exploring the world in which we live, all at a level beyond the typical high school experience.
