Welcome to the SES School Counseling site! The purpose of this site is to answer all of your frequently asked questions concerning school counseling,

We have two school counselors on campus: Mrs. Sullivan and Ms. Doyle. Mrs. Sullivan is here twice weekly, typically on Mondays and Tuesdays, while Ms. Doyle is on campus daily.

So what is it that we do? School Counselors work with students to assist them with their academic, social/emotional, personal, and career needs. In addition to working directly with students, we partner with parents/guardian and teachers to remove barriers to and provide resources for development and learning. MEET YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELORS

Porscha Doyle

Greetings!

I am a native of Walterboro, SC, where I graduated from Colleton County High School. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of South Carolina, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Education. I finished my Masters degree at South Carolina State University in Counselor Education, and I'm months away from finishing my Ph. D. in Couselor Education and Supervision at Liberty University. This school year is my 14th year as a School Counselor, and I am excited to be one of your School Counselors!

Jeanie Sullivan

Hi!

I am Jeanie Sullivan. I completed my Bachelors of Arts degree at Clemson University, and went on to pursue my Master of Education degree at the University of South Carolina. I have worked as a classroom teacher and school counselor for over 35 years. I am now a working retiree who came back to lend a hand and my heart to the students of Sandlapper Elementary. I am excited to be one of your School Counselors!

SCHOOL COUNSELING SERVICES

We offer a variety of services to meet the needs of our students.

Individual Counseling

Students 2nd Grade and under may be referred for individual counseling by a guardian or staff member. Students 3rd through 5th Grades may request counseling support by submitting a request in their Gooogle Classroom. The services provided will address the immediate needs and concerns of the student; in which all information exchanged is confidential. Many students deal with personal upset, and the counselor’s office is a designated place where they can be provided with the assistance that they need.

Small Group Counseling

In small group settings, students benefit from each other. Students fear less when they realize that others may have situations similar to their own. Teachers make referrals for groups and permission slips will be sent home for your student to participate.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

Friendship Skills, Family Change (Separation/Divorce), Grief and Loss

Character Education

Character education is a theme promoted throughout the entire school. Once a month we will visit your student’s class to discuss areas of character or social skills.

Areas to include:

Types of Conflict, Conflict Resolution, Making Good Choices, Respect for Others and Self, and Personal Safety

CONSULTATION & COORDINATION

As your student’s school counselor, my goal is to encourage academic, social and emotional success while each student develops in relation to his/her abilities, interests, and goals. Consulting with guardians, staff members, and other school/community agencies is a vital way to ensure that the needs of our students are being met. We are available to assist in helping meet your student’s educational and/or social needs.

For the first semester, Mrs. Sullivan will focus on small group work and classes with PreK and Kindergarten, and Ms. Doyle will work with individual students, small groups, and classroom grades 1-5. In the second semester, Mrs. Sullivan will transition to small groups exclusively, and Ms. Doyle will expand her caseload to include PreK and Kindergarten.
