Team Composition

There will be one division of competition:

 High School: 9th-12th Grades

Game Protocol

This year's competition will consist of three toss-up rounds. Each round will have a different theme, including Arts, Entertainment, Inventors & Scientists, Sports, and Religion. The rounds will be named Purple, Gold, and Founders. The winning team at the local level will receive an award certificate and a cash prize.

The Toss Up Rounds (Purple, Gold, and Founders) will each have 50 Toss Up questions with the following topics:

- Purple Round Toss Up Questions: Arts, Entertainment, Politics, and Military

- Gold Round Toss Up Questions: Business and Education, Science and Exploration, and Sports

- Founders Round Toss-Up Questions: History (including local and South Carolina history)

During the toss-up rounds, a question will be read, and the team will have five seconds to ring in and answer the question. Once a team rings in, they must answer the question immediately. No other team can ring in during this time. If the first team to ring in answers incorrectly, any opposing team can ring in within five seconds for a chance to answer. Only the first response will be accepted, and the Que Master may request clarification of the answer. No blitzing (giving multiple answers to a question) is allowed.

If a team rings in before the toss-up is completed and the answer is incorrect, the entire question will be read to the other team in the toss-up format. If neither team can answer a toss-up within the allotted time, the Que Master will answer and move on to the next question.

Only the toss-up answer the team gave that rang in first, as indicated by the Que Master, will be accepted. Suppose a team calls out an answer without ringing in and being recognized by the Que Master. In that case, the answer will not be accepted, and the other teams will be given an exclusive opportunity to answer the question.

In the Founders Round (US History/South Carolina History), the bonus question will consist of multiple parts and require various answers.

If the Que Master accidentally answers a toss-up question, a new question will be substituted. The same rule applies to bonus questions.

During all rounds, students should only answer after the Que Master has recognized them after the buzzer. A team will be warned once per game; after the warning, answering before being recognized will count as an incorrect answer. In the final round (bonus), no warnings will be issued.

Questions requiring a person's name for an answer can be answered using the surname only, provided such an answer will be ambiguous. For example, if Theodore Roosevelt were the correct answer, students should use the whole name to distinguish it from Franklin Roosevelt.

If an answer is partially correct, the Que Master may ask for more information. For example, if a student answers "King," a more specific and complete answer may be requested.

The Scorekeeper will announce the score following each round. Advisers/Teachers/Site Coordinators should ask for clarification if there are any disagreements about the scores.

Learning aids like study sheets are not allowed during the competition. The use of this material may result in the disqualification of that team.

Observers are welcome. General talking will not be permitted during the competition, but excitement, clapping, and cheering are encouraged.

Team Registration Deadline is February 10th!
